Description

Clotrimazole is a broad-spectrum antifungal agent belonging to the imidazole class. It works by inhibiting the synthesis of ergosterol, a vital component of fungal cell membranes. This action disrupts the integrity of the fungal cell membrane, leading to the death of the fungus. Clotrimazole is primarily used for treating superficial fungal infections and is available in various topical forms.

Uses

Dermatophyte Infections

Athlete's Foot: Clotrimazole is commonly used to treat Trichophyton and other fungi that cause athlete's foot (tinea pedis).

Ringworm: Effective against fungal infections like tinea corporis, tinea cruris, and tinea capitis, caused by dermatophytes.

Jock Itch: Used in treating tinea cruris (jock itch), which commonly affects the groin area.

01

Yeast Infections

Vaginal Candidiasis: Clotrimazole is widely used for treating vaginal yeast infections caused by Candida albicans.

Oral Candidiasis (Thrush): It is also used as an oral suspension to treat thrush, a yeast infection in the mouth.

Cutaneous Candidiasis: Clotrimazole is effective for treating skin infections caused by Candida species, including diaper rash.

02

Nail Infections (Onychomycosis)

Applied topically for fungal infections of the nails, particularly for mild to moderate cases.

03

Fungal Infections of the Mucous Membranes

Used for treating infections caused by fungi in areas such as the oral cavity (oral thrush) and the genital area.

04

Other Fungal Infections

Can be used for treating other superficial fungal infections, including those caused by Malassezia species, such as seborrheic dermatitis and dandruff.
