Indications

Pirfenidone Potassium Tablets are primarily used in the treatment of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), a progressive lung disease characterized by scarring of the lung tissue that causes difficulty in breathing. Pirfenidone works by inhibiting fibrosis and inflammation, reducing the progression of the disease and improving lung function.

Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF)

Pirfenidone is indicated for the treatment of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, a condition in which lung tissue becomes damaged and scarred, leading to a decline in lung function. Pirfenidone has antifibrotic and anti-inflammatory properties, helping to slow the progression of lung scarring, reduce inflammation, and improve pulmonary function in patients with IPF. It is particularly useful in reducing the decline in forced vital capacity (FVC), which is a key measure of lung function.

Pulmonary Fibrosis of Other Etiologies

Although primarily used for IPF, pirfenidone may be prescribed off-label for other types of pulmonary fibrosis, especially those that share similar pathophysiological characteristics, such as fibrotic non-specific interstitial pneumonia (NSIP).
