Chloramphenicol Injection

Chloramphenicol is used to treat life-threatening infections such as sepsis, bacteremia, and typhoid fever, particularly when caused by Gram-positive and Gram-negative organisms that are susceptible to chloramphenicol.

Chloramphenicol is effective in the treatment of bacterial meningitis, particularly in cases caused by Haemophilus influenzae, Neisseria meningitidis, and Streptococcus pneumoniae. It is often used in patients who are allergic to penicillin or when resistance to other antibiotics is a concern.

It is used for severe respiratory tract infections such as pneumonia, lung abscesses, and bronchitis caused by susceptible microorganisms.

Chloramphenicol Injection is sometimes used to treat severe eye infections like conjunctivitis, keratitis, and endophthalmitis, particularly when other treatments are ineffective or contraindicated.

Effective for treating rickettsial diseases such as Rocky Mountain spotted fever, typhus, and Q fever, where other antibiotics like tetracyclines might not be suitable or available.

It is used in the treatment of severe anaerobic infections such as those in the abdominal cavity (e.g., peritonitis) or pelvic infections, especially when the pathogens are resistant to other antibiotics.

Chloramphenicol is used in treating severe osteomyelitis and septic arthritis, particularly in cases involving Staphylococcus aureus and other resistant organisms.
